GENERAL APPEARANCE
Large, strong-boned, well-muscled dog with a blocky profile. Balanced, symmetrical, and showing
clear sexual dimorphism.
TEMPERAMENT AND CHARACTER
Intelligent, loyal, and protective. Calm, confident, and fearless when required. Requires early
training and firm handling.
HEAD
Blocky, broad, and proportionate. Nose black. Eyes medium-sized in shades of brown. Ears
V-shaped and carried close to the head.
NECK
Strong, muscular, medium length, with moderate dewlap.
BODY
Slightly longer than height. Muscular, deep, and broad with smooth transitions between sections.
CHEST
Broad, deep, with well-sprung ribs and strong pectoral muscles.
LOIN
Short, straight, and muscular.
RUMP
Broad, strong, slightly sloping toward the tail.
LEGS AND FEET
Strong, correctly structured, ensuring functional movement.
FOREQUARTERS
Strong-boned, well-angulated, straight alignment.
HINDQUARTERS
Muscular, well-angulated, providing powerful propulsion.
MOVEMENT
Free, powerful, and balanced with firm topline and correct convergence.
SKIN
Thick, loose, but fitting smoothly. Slight wrinkles acceptable.
PIGMENTATION
Well pigmented throughout, especially lips, nose, eye rims, and pads.
COAT AND COLOUR
Short, dense, smooth coat. Accepted colours: red, brown, fawn, brindle, black, Irish, piebald. Blue,
cream, and powder colours accepted but penalised. Liver nose permitted in breeding with conditions
SIZE
Males: ideal 66 cm (minimum 60 cm). Females: ideal 60 cm (minimum 55 cm).
GENITALS
Males must have two fully descended testicles.
FAULTS
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and judged in proportion to its
severity.
DISQUALIFICATIONS
Below minimum height; excessive size; aggression; atypical head; lack of pigmentation; incorrect
bites; blue eyes; pricked ears; pure white coat; physical or behavioural abnormalities; long or curly
coat; cryptorchid males.
PENALISATION
Temperament faults; size deviations; lack of sexual characteristics; eye defects; visible third eyelid;
undershot bite; any deviation from the standard.
